The past few days have been incredible to me because of the sunshine and cooler temps. In north GA we've had our share of rain this summer. The rain finally came after several years of drought. The summer heat hasn't been tormenting this year as it can be in the South. This is due mostly to the amount of rain we received. But...summer is summer in the South if you know what I mean. Even when the temps are not oppressing you, the humidity is! So when fall temps begin arriving it's really a good thing for me! This week has been extremely pleasant with highs in the 70's and lows in the low 50's (one day in the mid 40's).
In North GA we have all 4 seasons. However, the emphasis is on Fall and Spring. These are the 2 times of the year you experience the quickest and most distinct change in our climate. For those of you in my area, think about it. Just a few days ago we were experiencing steady 90's and a very high percentage of humidity. Not only do the temps begin to change but the atmosphere also drastically changes here during the fall. Let me explain. As one who notices stuff (I can't help myself, I just do), I noticed years ago that everything began to "look" like fall (to me) even by the middle of August. I would say, "I know this sounds crazy but I feel Fall in the air." I would say this by the 15th of August as we lived in Florida! I got a few of those "looks" from folks. I learned in later years that as the earth begins its tilt away from the sun on about the 22nd of June I would begin to notice the change in its angle by mid August. Have you noticed that in the Fall the shadows take on new angles, the sky seems to be more blue (when its not raining), and the air is more crisp? That's because less and less of the sun's direct rays are heating up the atmosphere. (Sounds like I know my stuff huh? Actually that's about all I know.)
Why this meteorological lesson? My point in all this is that when certain signs begin to appear each year, I begin looking forward to some very comfortable weather. I begin to get excited! I don't have to wait for the weather person to say "It will be 45 degrees in the morning" to get excited about cooler temps. I see the signs and know it's already happening! The same is true in God's kingdom. Look around. What do you see? Do you see any signs of His return? It depends on what you are looking for. Some people look around and mope over how bad things are (and they are). But others are getting more and more excited every day because they are discerning the signs of our current time. Jesus told us 2000 years back to discern the signs of the times. I truly believe the most exciting and most powerful time to exist (on this planet) is right now...just before His return! Jesus said, "Learn from the fig tree. When its branch has already become tender, and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near; even so you too, when you see all these things, recognize the He is near, right at the door". So...what you do see, and what are you feeling? I guess the more accurate question would be...what are you looking for?
